Since I was not able to attend the July 26 meeting, there are no notes.
Meeting Notes from July 19, 2018
As this was a Spouses/Partners night, Secretary Jim Padgett went around each table so Rotarians could introduce their guests. President Dave Boldt thanked Doug Zezoff for buying the bar.
Bill Hutto thanked the volunteers who helped sell beer at the Chamber of Folsom Rodeo. The club received a $2,000 check for their efforts. He also reminded the members of another fund-raiser with the Chamber on August 2, Tap Folsom. Volunteers will work on collecting parking fees and at entrances to the event.
Bill Hutto also announced that our club donated $3,000 to a project in Uganda for digging 5 wells. This project was done with the Rotary Club of Carmichael.
Danielle Zezoff gave us a presentation on the UC Irvine Med Ed International Ultrasound Project in Mwanza, Tanzania this past summer.
Eleven first year medical students from UC Irvine travelled to Mwanza to teach ultrasound and conduct research at the Tandabui Institute of Health, Education, Science and Technology (TIHEST). Some of the highlights of what was accomplished were:
- taught 70 students ultrasound, pharmacy, physicians assistants, and community health workers.
- 300 children received pediatric vision screening.
- in 5 days, 811 women were screened for cervical cancer and 140 women received treatment.
Danielle thanked our club for making a donation to the project. On a personal note, Danielle said she climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and went on a safari. You can see more information on this project at
UC Med Ed - Tanzania 2018.
Ryan Jantzen introduced our speaker, John McGuinnis. John is the former Sacramento County Sheriff and is now a talk show host on NewsRadio KFBK. He talked about obscure bills that have recently gone through or are now going through the California Legislature.
