Meeting Notes from May 3, 2018

Rotary Club of Historic Folsom President Jay Alling attended our meeting and announced that his club will be planting trees on the Johnny Cash Trail May 12.  He invited us to join them for this Folsom Tree Planting project.

Monika Reyes said the Big Day of Giving was going on as we met and there were hourly incentives with donations.  She thanked John Leung for sending out 500 emails to supporters of our Wine and Dine.  She also thanked Rachel Zirin for flyers and a video on Facebook.

Trisha Saylor asked members to pick up Wine and Dine tickets and posters that can be displayed in their businesses.

Justin talked about the Saturday, May 5 work party at 106 Fargo Way.  The project is a front yard renovation at a PowerHouse Transition Men's Home.

President Paul Bonaventure announced that the meeting of June 21 will be "An Evening with Orville Wegat".

Steve Miklos reminded the club of the campout at Stampede Reservoir, Emigrant Campground, on June 14 to June 17.  Cost is $40 per person, $80 per couple.  If you are going, get your checks payable to the club to Dave Boldt ASAP.  Checkin Thursday is 3 PM.

Monika Reyes presented Bob Quinlan with a Paul Harris Fellow +5 pin.

Joe and Bob Hoffman levied fines.  All fines were doubled and the money generated by the fines will go to the Folsom Rotary Foundation through Big Day of Giving.  Joe and Bob presented President Paul with a birthday gift as they will be going fishing in Manitoba again next year.  Here is Paul with some of his gifts.

Joe and Bob also said that President Paul agreed to the fishing trip to Manitoba even though his 40th Anniversary will be at the same time as the trip.  Oops, but as President Paul showed us, he already shopped at Adrian Blanco's Jewelry Shop.

Bob Flautt introduced our speaker, Lori Ajax, the new Chief of the Bureau of Cannabis Control.  Lori gave us a very interesting look at the regulations on the sale of recreational cannabis in California.

Landscape Project Saturday, May 5

On Saturday morning, several Rotarians gathered at the PowerHouse Ministries Men's Transitional Home on Fargo Way to update the front yard with drip irrigation, plants, and black bark mulch.  The plan was to be done in about 4 hours but with the number of workers there, it was done in a couple of hours.  Below are photos from beginning to end.

John Leung said, "It was great to see the occupants come out, grab shovels, and work alongside us until we were done.

After the Rotarians were done, it was off to the Sutter Club for a few libations.
