The Halloween meeting was opened by President Ryan Jantzen at 7:07 pm.  President Ryan led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the Invocation.

 

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced two visiting Rotarians, Joe Scheimer and John Paul Jones from the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks.  He then asked the members to introduce their guests.  When Richelle Brooks introduced her husband, Taylor, she announced that they are expecting.

 

Joe Scheimer, District 5180 Rotary Foundation Chair, will be cycling in the Tour de Tucson this year for Polio Plus.  Our club is the 9th club that he visited this week asking for sponsors. The Rotary Club of East Sacramento challenged their members to raise $7,500 by World Polio Day and they raised $7,700.  Joe thanked us for what we do for the Rotary Foundation and, in particular, our donations to Polio Plus.  John Messner, Steve Brozosky, Brent Sundahl, and Yvonne Sundahl will be cycling in the Tour de Tucson for Polio Plus representing our club.

 

John Messner presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Paula Bennett.  Rik Bennett provided the Paul Harris points to make Paula a Paul Harris Fellow.

Bill Hutto announced that the club is going to re-create the Flag on Iwo Jima for the Veterans Day Parade.  There will be a work day on Saturday, October 29 at Granite School at 2 pm.

The Halloween program was a costume contest and a trivia contest.  Top costume contest winner was Jim Padgett.  There was a four way tie for second by Charles Grows, Scott Bailey, Paula Bennett, and Nikki Ballenger-Evers.

Editors Note:  Unfortunately, the meeting was not well attended.  There were only 20 members there, two Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks, and 5 significant others.  Costumes were encouraged but not required and several of us did not wear a costume.  For those who didn't come, you missed an evening of great fun and fellowship.
