Meeting Notes from January 5, 2023

The meeting of January 5 was opened by President Ryan Jantzen leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Mange gave the Invocation.

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced visiting Rotarians and guests.

Joe and Bob Hoffman gave a "special presentation" to our guest speaker, Robert Nelson, President of Sacramento State College.  As the Folsom Rotary Club was known as a "no tie club" in the past, one of the traditions was to cut off the tie of any visitor to the club.  Joe and Bob cut off Robert's tie much to the surprise and amazement of the members and guests.

Sorry for the poor quality of the photo.  I did not have the settings right on the camera, but you can get an idea of how much Robert enjoyed it.

President Ryan reminded the members of the two fund raisers that we have scheduled for this spring, Oktoberfest in April and Cornhole for a Cause, date to be determined.  If you can volunteer for the committee for one or both, please contact President Ryan.

The Leadership Conference is on February 7 at Lakeside Church.  We have 66 mentors signed up but we need at least 70.  If you haven't signed up but could be a mentor, please contact Rich Rider.  If you have a friend who would be a good mentor, ask him/her to join us, it only takes about 3/4 of the day.

Many third grade dictionaries were distributed in December and the remaining dictionaries will be distributed this month.  Rich Pepin is working on the schedule with the remaining schools and will put out the schedule shortly.  It is a great experience to hand the dictionaries to the third graders and see the expressions on their faces.  If you can take a couple of hours and help, it is a worthwhile experience.

President Ryan thanked John Messner and the 15 people that helped assemble the shade structure over the pizza oven at the Murer House on December 17.

The club will be taking down the Christmas Tree decorations at the Folsom Zoo on Saturday, January 21.  If you can help, contact President Ryan.

Justin Raithel levied fines.  Justin fined Joe and Bob Hoffman for harassing me to put a correction in Bullegraph #19.  In Bullegraph #19, I published a correction as to when the Hoffmans started the Pledge of Allegiance at the previous meeting.  I  said it was before 7 pm and I received a correction that it was after 7 pm.  It was my decision and I thought it would be fun to put in the correction.  Joe came over to me before the meeting and said that he laughed hysterically when he read it.  I don't think that the Hoffmans should have been fined and I am sorry that I did not say so at the meeting.  Since I didn't own up to it at the meeting, maybe I am due for a fine.  Justin, thanks for your kind words about my writing the Bullegraph.

Jim Orgeta introduced our speaker, Robert Nelson, President of Sacramento State College.  Robert's presentation included some history about the school and what he accomplished during his eight years as President.  He is retiring from Sac State at the end of this semester.

Guess what?  You guessed it, President Ryan forgot to bring the box of Snooks chocolate for the speaker's gift again.
