David J. West Obituary

David J. West, 77, passed away on January 10, 2021 in Rancho Mirage. Born to Barney and
Lucy West on June 12, 1943, and raised in Long Beach, CA. He played on State and National
Championship football teams in high school and city college, before graduating from California
Western University, San Diego on a football scholarship. After serving in the United States
Marine Corps Reserves, he married his college sweetheart Joanne C. Edwards, a marriage of 53
years. He had a nearly fifty year successful banking career, first with Glendale Federal Savings
for 22 years, then moved to Folsom, California where he opened the Folsom Branch office of
First Interstate Bank. He later spent 10 years as a banking consultant before organizing and
founding Folsom Lake Bank as Chairman of the Board.

An active community supporter, he was First United Methodist Church of Glendale Lay Leader,
President of the Trustees and youth counselor; Boy Scout supporter achieving the Silver Beaver
Award, President of Glendale BSA council; founder of Folsom High School PTSA; Little League
baseball coach; Past President of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, founder and Chair of the
Folsom Economic Development Corporation. An active Rotarian, he was a multi Paul Harris
Fellow, R.I. Benefactor, past president of his local Folsom Club, and served on many positions at
the District 5180 level, including Assistant Governor.

Dave’s passions included water and snow skiing, fishing, boating, tennis and golf. His three most favorite places to spend time with his family were Lake Tahoe, Maui, and Rancho Mirage. He will be remembered most for his high ethics, commitment, generosity, and loyalty to his family. His most treasured gifts, in addition to his wife, are their children Cynthia McCormick (Steve), Amy Krause (Erik) and Brian West (Meghan), and being “Gramps” to four wonderful grandchildren.

The family will plan a Celebration of Life at a later date, but as a legacy to Dave, please consider
a donation to the Folsom Rotary Foundation. Twenty six years ago he started the Youth
Leadership Conference at Folsom High School through the Rotary Club, which teaches high
school students leadership skills and ethical choices in the workplace, schools, and the local and
global community. The annual conference is still hosted annually and was dear to Dave’s heart.
