Meeting Notes from February 6, 2025

The meeting of February 6 was opened by President Ramesh Dontha at 7 pm. President Ramesh led the Pledge of Allegiance and Bob Mange gave the Invocation.

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests. Jim also reported on Henry Sundermier who had surgery a few days ago. Henry will be in the hospital a couple of days longer than expected but the good news was no signs of cancer. Jim purchased the bar to celebrate the 50th anniversary of him getting out of jail. He did spend a weekend in jail in Davenport, Iowa but was released without charges. If you were not at the meeting, ask Jim as to why he ended up in jail. Jim, thanks for sharing a great story and buying the bar.

Dan Nitz gave Jim a Paul Harris +5 pin for being an outstanding club secretary for many years.

Ryan Jantzen asked the members to raise their hands if they have signed up to be mentors at the Leadership Conference on Thursday, February 27. Not many raised their hands. Ryan asked members to PLEASE sign up. We have students coming from both Vista Del Lago and Folsom High Schools. Register on our website at Leadership Conference Mentors

Justin Raithel talked about the 2025 Dragon Boat Races on April 5. Registration is available at Dragon Boat Races. Follow the clicks and register as a rower on the Rotary Club of Folsom team. Five people have registered including team captains Justin Raithel and Monika Reyes.

Justin also announced that HART Winter Shelter is looking for volunteers to help serve food and work overnight shifts from February 23 to March 1. Check your emails for an email from Justin on February 11 describing how you can help HART.

The club received the following thank you card from Tara Baird, teacher at Carl Sundahl School, for her teacher grant of $500 for books for a book club.

President Ramesh reminded everyone of the Valentine Party at the Folsom Community Center on Thursday, February 13. Doors open at 6 pm and buffet dinner starts at 6:30 pm.

President Ramesh presented "Get to Know Your Fellow Rotarian Jim Ortega". If you were not at the meeting, you can see the presentation at Jim Ortega.

Ryan Jantzen levied fines.

Ryan was then introduced as "Jeopardy Host Alex Trebek". President Ramesh put together a Jeopardy game as our program for the evening. We were split up into teams made up of the members seated at each table. Each team had the name of a fruit. Each table appointed a captain who would hold up his/her paper with the team name to signal that the team wanted to select the category/amount and give the question to that answer. It was very clever and great fun.
