Meeting Notes from August 7, 2022
 
The meeting was opened at 7 pm by club members leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  The club also led the song, My Country Tis of Thee.  Al Stehli gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.
 
Bill Hutto reminded the members of the Celebration of Life for Andrew Vierra on Friday, August 19. 
 
President Ryan Jantzen attended the Rotary Club of Roseville meeting but did not retrieve our bell.  He did, however steal the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks bell from Roseville, so he did have a bell tonight.
 
Rochelle Miskanis placed comment cards on the tables and asked the members to fill them out.  The cards were a survey about food and booze at the club.
 
President Ryan announced that the Chamber gave the club a check for $5,000 for manning the beer booth at the rodeo.  He also thanked the members and Rotary Annes who worked at the fireworks booth.
 
President Ryan announced several events coming up in the future:
  • Focus Your Imagination Rotary Seminar Mid-Year Assembly on Saturday, October 8 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church.  Three areas of focus are Rotary Foundation, Public Image, and Membership.  Register at www.rotary5180.org.
  • Community Service Day September 17 at Twin Lakes Food Bank and Clubhouse Beautification
  •  Pubic Safety Appreciation Lunch Thursday, September 1 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Folsom Community Center.
  • District 5180 Rotary Foundation Dinner September 17 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Sacramento Doubletree.  
John Messner announced that there will be a work party at the Murer House next month to build a shade structure over the pizza oven.
 
Scott Moore levied fines.
 
Bob Flautt introduced our speaker, Mayor Kerri Howell.  Mayor Howell gave us an update on several items pertaining to the city.  The Mayor also answered many questions.
 
President Ryan presented the Snook's chocolate Rotary Wheel to Mayor Howell.
 
 
Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange Student Arrived
 
Our exchange student from Belgium, Axelle Verbist, arrived on Sunday, August 14.  Several people gathered at the airport to welcome her to her new home for the school year.

The Miller family will be Axelle's first host family.  Taylor Brooks was also at the airp0rt to meet Axelle but he was the official photographer.  Axelle will be at an upcoming meeting to meet our club.
