The Don called the family meeting… and the Rotary family showed up.

With the warmth of an Italian summer evening and the charm of a classic family gathering, President John “The Don” Baciocco welcomed members to a night inspired by the spirit of Italy. 

From the moment members and guests  arrived, it was clear this was not going to be an ordinary Rotary meeting. The room was transformed with checkered tablecloths, Italian flags, and the unmistakable sounds of the Rat Pack era setting the stage for a memorable celebration. Members enjoyed an Italian dinner of chicken parmigiana and pasta while embracing the spirit of the evening.

Dressed in a classic tuxedo, “The Don” made his grand entrance with the confidence and charm of Dean Martin himself, inviting members to join him in a spirited rendition of “That’s Amore.” It was a moment that perfectly captured John’s personality and the evening’s deeper meaning, as he shared the story of his family’s roots in Italy and spoke about his vision for the year ahead — honoring the traditions that have built our club while embracing innovation, new opportunities, and the future ahead.

And yes… The Don did ask for a favor. One of the Don’s favors was simply to say yes when asked.

Around here, a favor doesn’t involve anything you see in the movies. A Rotary favor looks like volunteering at an event, serving on a committee, mentoring a student, welcoming a new member, or lending a hand to a fellow Rotarian. These are the favors that strengthen our Rotary family and allow us to continue making a difference in our community.

Because in Rotary, the greatest “family” we belong to is one built not on obligation, but on service, friendship, and a shared commitment to making the world a better place.

Celebrating Service Through Paul Harris Fellow Recognition

Our club had the honor of recognizing two individuals with Paul Harris Fellow recognitions.

A Paul Harris Fellow is one of Rotary’s most meaningful honors, recognizing individuals whose contributions support The Rotary Foundation and its mission to advance peace, improve health, provide education, and create lasting change around the world. It is a celebration of the commitment and generosity that reflect Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”

Len Hundshamer was recognized with his Paul Harris Fellow +2, honoring his continued dedication to Rotary and his contributions to our club and our community.

Len is a true example of what it means to be a Rotarian. His steady commitment, willingness to serve, and dedication to helping others have made a meaningful impact on the Rotary Club of Folsom. Recently honored as the Rotary Club of Folsom’s Rotarian of the Year, Len’s Paul Harris Fellow +2 recognition is a fitting tribute to the difference he continues to make through his service and leadership.

The club also celebrated a very special Paul Harris Fellow recognition presented to Rotary Anne Lynne Bailey by her husband, Immediate Past President Scott Bailey. This recognition honored Lynne’s outstanding support and service to the Rotary Club of Folsom throughout Scott’s year as president. While not a club member herself, Lynne has been an incredible partner in Rotary service, generously giving her time, encouragement, and support to help make our club stronger.

Rotary Youth Exchange Program 

One of the highlights of the evening was welcoming Elise, our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student, who will be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime as she travels to Brazil, in just a few weeks.

Elise shared a little about herself, her excitement for the year ahead, and expressed her gratitude to the Rotary Club of Folsom for sponsoring her exchange and supporting her throughout this incredible opportunity. Her enthusiasm for immersing herself in a new culture, learning a new language, and representing both our club and community was inspiring.

The Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program gives students the opportunity to live and study abroad while serving as ambassadors of goodwill, building international understanding, lifelong friendships, and a deeper appreciation for cultures around the world.

As Elise prepares for her journey to Brazil, our club is also looking forward to welcoming our inbound exchange student this fall from Switzerland. Elise’s family will serve as the first host family, followed by the Magarian family and the Martell family. As a club experience, all Rotarians are encouraged to help make our inbound exchange student’s time with us memorable and meaningful. If you have ideas for fun excursions, local experiences, or activities that could help make their stay especially enjoyable, please reach out to the host families so we can help create a truly special experience.

A Toast to Dennis Carlson

The bar was purchased by Dennis and Lisa Carlson in celebration of Dennis, our club’s poker shark. Dennis placed 39th of 9,200 poker players in the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event, an impressive finish that reflects the same calm strategy and competitive spirit he brings to Rotary.

Dennis and Lisa are both dedicated Rotarians who give so much to our club and community. Through their time, energy, generosity, and steady support, they continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. The Carlsons exemplify the spirit of Rotary and the power of service above self.

Dennis was also recognized for coming closest to guessing our fireworks booth gross sales. His prize? Champagne and sparklers, a perfectly fitting reward for a man who knows how to make a little light go a long way!
