President Steve Brozosky opened the meeting at 7 pm by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Mange gave the Invocation.  Since the meeting was on St. Patricks Day, we were served corn beef, cabbage, and carrots.  For dessert, we had Guinness floats.  

 

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.

 

President Steve thanked the Facilitators and mentors for a great Partnerships for Tomorrow Leadership Conference.  He specifically thanked Richelle Brooks and her committee for their work on the conference.  Richelle did an excellent job as MC for the conference.

 

Jay Alling introduced his guests, Tanya and her son, Nathan.  They are from Ukraine and recently escaped from the city of Kharkiv, making their way here to the US.  Tanya talked about her experience in getting to the US and answered several questions about the war in Ukraine.

Rich Rider talked about Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE), particularly outbound.  He introduced Tristan Normoyle, our outbound student for 2022/2023.  He also introduced Jeannine Sparks, chair of the District 5180 RYE committee.  We have an inbound student and Rich said that we would like to have three families during the school year.  He said that we are looking outside the club for host families as we do not have enough volunteer families within the club.  Hosting a RYE student is a great experience to learn about another country and their culture.  Lifetime friendships are made through the RYE experience.  Tristan learned at the meeting that he is going to Italy.

 

Rich gave him an envelope which he opened and his country was on the document inside.  Italy is his first choice.

 

Bob Flautt introduced our speaker, Rotarian Irv Dicksen.  Irv talked to us about the vintage race cars that he has built for many years and the car projects that he is working on today.
