Meeting Notes from May 27, 2021
The ZOOM meeting of May 27 was brought to order at 7:05 pm by President-Elect Steve Brozosky, substituting for President Monika Reyes.
Steve talked about the District 5180 Awards that the Rotary Club of Folsom received at the District Conference. See how our club did in the separate article about the District Conference later in this Bullegraph.
Steve announced that Rosario Rodriguez has become a Polio Plus Society Member. Members of the Society pledge to donate $100 per year to Polio Plus until polio is eradicated.
Steve conducted an election of the Folsom Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees. There were 4 openings and 4 candidates. It was moved and seconded that the 4 candidates be elected by acclamation. The new trustees are
- Paul Bonaventure for 3 years
- Garry Parlier for 3 years
- Monika Reyes for 3 years
- Jerry Avila for 1 year
Steve Sprague gave us a couple of headlines.
Bill Hutto talked about our club selling beer at the Folsom Rodeo this year on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. He still needs members to step up on July 4 from 5 until 10 pm. Contact Bill if you can help.
Demotion will be on June 24, location to be determined.
Rotary District 5180 Conference
The district conference this year was virtual on May 22 and May 23 from 10 am until 12 pm. For being a virtual conference, I thought it went very well. Clubs were asked to submit Promo Videos and 9 clubs participated. The videos were shown on Saturday morning in groups of 3 between other presentations. The Rotary Club of East Sacramento was awarded first place.
Speakers on Saturday included the Speech Contest Winner, Rotary International Vice President Johrita Solari, and Past Rotary International Vice President Dean Rohrs. Jim Tracy conducted the Remembrance Ceremony for Rotarians who passed away this Rotary year.
Sunday morning was devoted mostly to awards. The Rotary Club of Point West won the Pinewood Derby race with RC Gridley second and RC Sacramento third.
The following Rotarians were inducted into the Rotary District 5180 Hall of Fame:
- Nick Doiron - RC North Sacramento
- Drew Houghton - RC Point West
- John Weiler - RC Marysville
- Tom Cicchini - RC Point West
- Jo Ann Lemmon - RC North Sacramento
The Rotarian of the Year is Leigh-Ann Reinero of the Rotary Club of Passport One.
The Rotary Club of Folsom received the following awards.
President Monika was at Yuba College to accept the medals for our club.
The Club of the Year was the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks.
The Featured Speaker Sunday morning was Retired Major Brian Shul (USAF). He has spoken to our club about his career in the air force, including piloting the SR-71 Blackbird.
2021 Rotary International Convention
The 2021 Rotary International Convention was to be in Taipei, Taiwan but was cancelled due to COVID 19. However, here is your chance to attend a Rotary International Convention from the comfort of your home.
