Meeting Notes from January 21, 2021

President Monika Reyes brought the meeting of January 21 to order at 7:04 pm.  She requested a moment of silence for Rotarians and friends who passed away during the past week.

President Monika read an email from Jean Cavanugh.  Jean was a member of our club several years ago.  She is a teacher at Folsom High School and was Interact Club Advisor and represented the school on the Leadership Conference Committee.  For those who were not at the meeting, here is the email.

Dear Rotary Club of Folsom,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this email to send my condolences to all the Rotarians, friends, and family of Dave West, Patrick Maxfield, and Bob Quinlan.

When I joined Rotary years ago, Dave West was instrumental in recruiting me to the club as I was an advisor of the Future Business Leaders of Ameria at Folsom High School.  When I joined, Patrick Maxfield was the President and became a great role model and mentor for me.  And do I dare say, Bob Quinlan was my partner in crime.  I could always count on him to make me laugh and harass me (the 5th female in Rotary) but I held my own!  I served as the Vocational Director with all of them and was in awe of the leadership we have in our community.

It wasn't until I took on the FHS Interact Club and worked with Dave on the Rotary Leadership Conference where I witnessed the commitment and devotion of Dave West in action.  Dave was so enthusiastic about leading this conference and ensuring that our students understand that the work ethic and leadership they show in school will spill over to their personal and business life.  Our students are better friends, employees, and spouses because of Dave.  He was truly a treasure to the Rotary Club.  Bob always volunteered as a workshop facilitator and Patrick never failed to volunteer as a participant.  All three were what I called part of the "heart of Rotary."  I will cherish my memories of them.  They will truly be missed.

For those of you who remember me, I miss you!  The Four Way Test is something I still teach my students to this day.  I will always be a Rotarian at heart.  I hope you all stay safe and healthy and know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this time of loss.

January 16th Work Parties

A small group of Rotarians worked on two projects on January 16.  The first project was to complete the retaining wall that was started a week earlier.  Looks like a great job and of course, well deserved refreshments.  Thanks to Justin Raithel and Paul Bonaventure for the photos.

The second project of the day was trimming trees at the home of Candy Miller.
