Meeting Notes from May 5, 2023
 
President Ryan Jantzen opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Mange gave the Invocaton.
 
Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.  Rich Rider introduced our RYE Exchange Student, Axelle Verbist's, host families for this past year.
 
Lana Osakina had her baby.  Henry Jack Kajikyan was born April 27 at 8:04 pm.  He was 22 inches and 7 pounds 10 ounces.  Since the meeting, Richelle Brooks had her baby.  Gianna Marie Brooks was born on May 8.
 
Our waitress, Kerry Edwards, had successful eye surgery last week and will be back with us on May 12.
 
The District 5180 Assembly has been rescheduled to ZOOM on Monday, May 15 from 5 pm to 7:30 and Wednesday, May 17 from 5 pm to 7:30.  Again, we encourage next years Board members and new members to attend this great learning opportunity.
 
Oktoberfest in June is on Sunday, June 4 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Folsom Community Center.  All Rotarians are expected to volunteer and sell 4 tickets to the event.
 
This summer, District 5180 is participating in a short term exchange.  Three students from Arden-Arcade, Marysville and Folsom will send a student to Europe for a month and they will return with a student who will stay for a month.  Mayci Evers is going to Belluno in Northern Italy and will will bring back her exchange partner Irene for a month.
 
Our Speaker was our exchange student, Axelle.  Axelle talked about her experiences here in Folsom.
 
 
  
 
Rotary District 5180 Conference
 
The 2023 District Conference was held in Folsom on May 6 and 7 at the Folsom Community Center.  Friday, May 5, over 100 Rotarians and guests attended a wine tasting event at Miners Leap Winery in Clarksburg.
 
Frank Woods was Registrar for the conference.  He and Carolyn received help from Folsom Rotarians and Rotary Annes to stuff the packets for the attendees and to help in passing them out on Saturday and Sunday.

At the Saturday lunch session, President Ryan received a special award from District Governor Karen Cendro for our prompt response to the Mosquito fire last year.

President Ryan also received a Gold for Youth Services as well.

The club also received the following awards:
  • Gold - Membership/Vocational
  • Silver - Administration, Public Image, Community Service, and International Service
  • Bronze - Rotary Foundation
On Sunday, the emcee was our own President Ryan.
 
 
Also on Sunday, the Rotary Youth Exchange Students were introduced and gave a short skit.
 
Axelle is fourth from the left.
 
One of the keynote speakers was Taro Arai, owner of Mikuni restaurants.  He talked about his life and how he started the restaurant chain.  He was very interesting and entertaining.  Another keynote speaker was Heidi Kuhn.  She is the founder and CEO of Roots of Peace, a humanitarian non-profit organization with a vision to transform MINES to VINES - replacing the scourge of landmines with sustainable agricultural farmland.  Lisa Tuter, CEO of Twin Lakes Food Bank was the keynote speaker on Sunday.
