Meeting Notes from April 13, 2023

The meeting was opened by President Ryan Jantzen leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Mange gave the Invocation.

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests and visiting Rotarians including District Governor Karen Cendro.

DG Karen said that she wanted the district conference to be in North Lake Tahoe but after COVID the hotel wanted $300 a night which was too much.  The decision was made to have the conference in Folsom with the hope that more members than usual will attend the conference because of the reduced cost.  Most members will not need a hotel.  DG Karen said that Laguna Sunrise Club has registered more that Folsom Rotary and challenged us to overcome them.  Laguna Sunrise has about 1/3 the number of members as we have.  You only need to come to one session to get a feel for what a conference is all about.  To learn more about the conference and register, go to District 5180 Conference on the District website.

District Assembly is on Saturday, April 22 from 8 am to 12:30 pm.  The assembly consists of several sessions on various Rotary topics which is very worthwhile for new officers and new members.  All Rotarians are invited.  To register for the assembly, go to District Assembly on the District website.

Rotary Annes were one of the charity organizations in Folsom to be chosen for a Fireworks Booth this year.  Paul Bonaventure has volunteered to manage the booth again this year.  The booth will open June 28 until sundown on July 4 and is a big money maker for Rotary Annes and our club.  Plan to work at least a couple of shifts.

Demotion this year will be on June 22 so as not to conflict with the fireworks booth on the last Thursday in June.

Ramesh Dontha introduced Adrian Blanco to levy fines.

Bob Flautt introduced our speaker, Tim Pinkney.  Tim talked about what NASA scientists are learning from the photos taken by the Webb Space Telescope.  He compared the photos from Webb to what they received from the Hubble Telescope.  The photos from Webb are providing considerably more data.  President Ryan presented the Rotary Chocolate Wheel from Snook's as a thank you to Tim for speaking to our club.

Editor's Note:  On Monday, April 17, I will get a total knee replacement of my right knee and will probably miss at least the next couple of meetings.  If anyone is interested in writing the Bullegraph while I am out, please go ahead.

District "People of Action Day"

Thanks to President Ryan for posting this information and photos on Facebook.

On Saturday, April 15, the Rotary Club of Folsom participated in the District 5180 "People of Action Day".  Every club in the district was asked to do a project on this date.  The Rotary Club of Folsom worked with State Parks at Black Miners Bar by moving lots of mulch under newly planted trees along Greenback Lane.  Another crew pruned trees with the Sacramento Tree Foundation.  They trimmed mostly oak trees to keep them from encroaching on bike trails and to reduce fire danger.  Here are photos of the crew at Black Miners Bar.
