The meeting of April 9 was opened at 7 pm by President Scott Bailey leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Bob Mange gave the Invocation.

Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests.

Doug Burton announced that there are 2 vacancies on the Folsom Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees effective July 1. President Doug Burton and Treasurer Rik Bennett are leaving the Board. Trustees are elected to the Board for three years. The election of Trustees to the Board will occur at the last club meeting in May. If you want to review the By-Laws of the Foundation, go to Foundation By-Laws on our website. If you want to be on the Board, contact Doug. 

Justin Raithel said that half the boat for Paddle for a Purpose on April 25 is filled. If you want to join the fun, contact Justin to sign-up.

President Scott said that the Castle Park project was going well but rain was expected in the next few days. President Scott showed a drawing of the park and pointed to the area that the club was working on (the area in the top right side). Look for an email requesting help on completing the park.

Henry Sundermier said there are lots of projects coming up so look for his emails.

President Scott went over the speaker calendar and event line-up for the months of May and June including:

Len Hundshamer talked about donating to the Rotary Foundation. He said our goal as a club is to be an EREY club. EREY stands for Every Rotarian Every Year and we are asking every member to donate to the Rotary Foundation with a donation of at least $25.00. Your donation can be made online at www.rotary.org or you can give it to Len and he will submit it for you. Also, the donation should be given to Annual Fund - Share which is the fund that funds District Grants.

President Scott gave an update on the Mystery Trip on Thursday, May 21. Forty-0ne of fifty-six spots have been taken. Sign-up on our website at Mystery Trip.

Brian Martell levied fines. He talked about May and Elio Marsalla who left a significant endowment to the Rotary Foundation to fund an annual scholarship. He challenged members who have not donated to the Annual Fund to do so by putting $25 in the fine trays. 

The District has selected a scholar to receive the Elio and May Marsalla scholarship this year. Past District Governor and District Rotary Foundation Chair Bob Deering will introduce Zane Compise to the club this Thursday, April 16 to the club.

Brian introduced our speaker, Malcolm Johnson of Good Cause Sacramento. Malcolm shared his life story and how he came to create Good Cause Sacramento, safe, sober housing for men and women. They provide a mandated 12-week course for all participants entering Life Transitions Process called a Spiritual, Mental and Physical workshop. They operate a men's sanctuary for up to 18 men called Sunrise House and a women's sanctuary called Beech House. Go to Good Cause Sacramento to learn more about this wonderful organization. Colleen McCusker, who is in charge of the Beech House was with Malcolm at the meeting.

President Scott presented a box of Snook's chocolate with a chocolate Rotary Wheel to Malcolm.
