Membership Update

Membership Chair John Baciocco submitted the following message about membership plans for this Rotary Year.

I will be updating our club membership “mentoring program” this year. When we bring a new Rotarian into our club it’s a big deal! I will ask some of you to take on a new member as a mentor during their onboarding process. This may also include joining me at their “fireside chat” where we share more about Rotary and the responsibilities of service for every Rotarian.  Please try and assist if possible. The time commitment is minimal and your main goal will be to continue to answer questions and be a resource for our new members and to get them into a club project as soon as possible. The best way to assure long term participation in our club (and not just show up occasionally for dinner on Thursday nights) is to get our new members involved quickly in service.  I will be interviewing some current members who have joined in the past year or two to see what we can do better as a club and how we can get some of you more involved. Sometimes all we have to do is ask a newer member and they most likely will say yes. Isn’t that why we all joined Rotary? Let’s get more members saying “Yes!”. Let me know if you have additional suggestions and please try and bring a friend or new acquaintance to dinner on a Thursday soon, they might become our next new member. Thanks for your support.

Yours in Rotary,
John Baciocco

School Supplies Projects

Our club participated in two school supply projects at Folsom Cordova Schools. Olga Garton led a school supply drive for students who are homeless, in foster care, and unattended youth that still prioritize their education while being in need. This project was in partnership with the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Olga dropped off 806 school supple items to the school district office. Below is a photo of the school supplies purchased using monies from the club and from club member donations.

Carolyn and Frank Woods, using money allocated by the Board, purchased 18 backpacks and filled them with school supplies for Folsom High School and Vista del Lago High School. Below is a photo of the backpacks and what is in them.

On Tuesday, Carolyn and Frank delivered 10 backpacks to Folsom High School and 8 backpacks to Vista del Lago High School. The backpacks will be given to students who do not have the means to purchase them. They also gave each school 5 combination locks that students can use for Physical Education lockers.
