Meeting Notes from December 11, 2025
The meeting of December 11 was opened by President Scott Bailey at 7 pm. President Scott led the Pledge of Allegiance and Bob Mange gave the Invocation.
President Scott announced that Justin Raithel was voted Mayor and Anne Rohrbough was voted Vice Mayor by the City Council. The offices are immediate and are for one year.
Secretary Jim Padgett introduced several guests and visiting Rotarians. Visiting Rotarians included previous member Garry Parlier, District 5180 Polio Plus Chair Joe Scheimer, Past District Governor and current District 5180 Rotary Foundation Chair Bob Deering, District 5180 RYE committee member Dean Hendricks, Past RYE student Kallie Klug, Past District 5180 RYE Chair Janine Sparks, and a RYE student from Vietnam. In addition to our speakers, RYE students Sienna Normolye and Lauren Miller, visiting with them were their parents and Sienna's brother Tristan who was a RYE student to Italy a couple of years ago.
Garry exchanged his club banner from South Dakota with President Scott for a Folsom Club banner.
Rafael Ortiz from the Rotary Club of Incline Village also traded banners with President Scott.
Doug Zezoff bought the bar to honor our healthcare workers and announced that Lynette has been cancer free for 20 years. Lynette was also at the meeting.
Vicki Bencken introduced another guest, Dr. Arebu Abdu from the Rotary Club of Roseville. He attended our meeting to present information abo
ut a Rotary Foundation Global Grant initiative he is leading, with the goal of providing a community of more than 7,000 people in Jama Nigus, Ethiopia access to clean, sustainable water and educational opportunities. You can view his presentation at Global Grant No. 2682122.
Joe Scheimer gave us an update on Polio Plus donations this year that he has collected during his fall campaign for District 5180 donations. As of our meeting, he had collected $145,000 in donations for Polio Plus. His goal was to raise $150,000 this year.
Bob Deering talked about the Rotary Foundation and that 50% of donations from the district to the foundation come back to the district as District Designated Funds that clubs in the district can apply for their projects as matching grants to club funds. Bob recognized Rich Rider as a Major Donor as Rich has donated at least $10,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Rich received a Major Donor pin and crystal.
President Scott encouraged members to donate to the Rotary Foundation so our club will be Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) Club. So far this year, 26% of our members have donated to the Rotary Foundation. The easiest way to donate is to go to My Rotary at
Rotary.org and sign up for automatic contributions. Vicki Bencken volunteered to assist anyone who needs help.
President Scott thanked the members who participated in the Mt. Olive Church projects, repairing a shade structure and small repairs in a classroom.

- Saturday, December 20, 5 to 7:30 pm caroling at Folsom Zoo Wild Nights Holiday Lights
- Saturday, January 2, 9 to 10 am remove zoo lights
Chuck Thompson said that the gift-wrapping project on Sutter Street had raised over $500 for Twin Lakes Food Bank.
Olga Garton said that the Wishing Tree Project this year has had the best participation since we started participating three years ago. She reminded everyone of the wrapping party on Saturday, December 13.

Ryan Jantzen introduced our speakers, Sienna Normoyle and Lauren Miller. Sienna and Lauren participated in a RYE Exchange this past summer. Sienna went to Italy and Lauren went to France. Prior to going to Europe, they met their host families online including their host sisters. They traveled to Europe and stayed with their host families and then returned to California with their host sisters for a few weeks. Their presentations were about their experiences.
President Scott presented Sienna and Lauren with chocolates from Snook's that included a Rotary Wheel of chocolate in the box.

Impromptu Birthday Party
John Lindow turned 90 on December 16 and President Scott suggested that we surprise him with a little party at his home at 4 pm. Frank and Carolyn Woods picked up a cake and some balloons. Also attending the party were John Messner, Elaine Smart, President Scott, and Ramesh Dontha. John was very pleasantly surprised, and we enjoyed helping him celebrate his very special day.
