Meeting Notes from June 11, 2020

The online Zoom meeting of June 11 was called to order by President Bob Flautt at 7 pm.  President Bob reminded the club that the demotion will be on Thursday, July 25 at 6:30 pm at the Hampton  Inn parking lot.

Chuck Thompson said that we are on track for the November 15 fund-raiser at the Folsom Community Center.  This event will be a presentation by Brian Shul.  Brian Shul is a Vietnam War-era attack pilot and a retired major in the United States Air Force (USAF). He flew 212 combat missions and was shot down near the end of the war. He was so badly burned that he was given next to no chance to live. Surviving, he returned to full flight status, flying the SR-71 Blackbird. Major Shul completed a 20-year career in the Air Force. He has written four books on aviation and runs a photo studio in Marysville, California.

Paul Bonaventure talked about the fireworks sales for July 4.  There are still shifts available on July4.  If you can do a shift on the 4th, go to Fireworks Booth sign-up.  Sign-ups include Rotary Annes and members of the other Folsom Rotary Clubs.

President Bob presented virtual Paul Harris Fellow pins to Jay Alling, a Paul Harris +3, and Robert Comper, a Paul Harris +8.

Joe Gagliardi introduced our speaker, Evert Palmer, former Folsom city manager and now a consultant with the Greater Folsom Partnership.  Evert thanked the club for our services to the community.  He talked about the Folsom Economic Recovery Plan.  President Bob presented a box of Snook's Rotary chocolate to Evert as a thank you for speaking to the club.

Considering recent events in the news, Ramesh Dontha recognized Paul Bonaventure, Rich Rider, and Jim Ortega for their years of police service.

Rotary International Virtual Convention

Since the Rotary International Convention in Honolulu was canceled due to Covid-19, Rotary is holding it's first virtual convention.  The convention started today with General Session 1 at 6 am on You Tube.  If you didn't get up to see it this morning, the recording is available on You Tube at RI Convention Session 1.  For information on General Session 2 which is Sunday at 6 am and for breakout sessions Monday through Friday of this week, go to RI Virtual Convention.  This is a great opportunity to see the work being done around the world by our great organization.
