Meeting Notes from March 10, 2022
 
President Steve Brozosky opened the meeting at 7 pm by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Ken Stuart led the song, My Country Tis of Thee, and Bob Mange gave the Invocation.
 
Secretary Jim Padgett introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.  Since the meeting was Speech Contest, he said that the students and their guests would be introduced later.
 
President Steve said that the club donated to ShelterBox for Ukrainian assistance and that The Rotary Foundation has set up a fund for disaster relief for Ukrainians.
 
The Colima, Mexico trip has been postponed to May.
 
President Steve reminded the members that the Partnerships for Tomorrow Leadership Conference is on March 15, 8:15 am.
 
Christie Watrous announced that the club will participate in Trivia Night at the Canyon Grill and Alehouse on March 30.  If you are interested in joining the fun, it is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
 
Monika Reyes asked for a volunteer to be chairman of a Corn Hole Tournament.  
 
Bob Mange introduced the Speech Contest.  The theme of the speech is the RI President's theme, "Serve to Change Lives".  He then reminded us of the rules.  One of the rules changed this year and we were able to applaud after each speech.
 
Between speeches, President Steve encouraged members to attend the District 5180 Conference in South Lake Tahoe the weekend of April 29 to May 1.  Ryan Jantzen reported on PETS, President Elect Training Seminar.  Ryan gave a shoutout to Bob Flautt, Monika Reyes, and Steve Brozosky for keeping our club going through the pandemic.  Several president-elects that he spoke to at PETS talked about losing members and now having problems getting restaurants to host their meetings.  Lastly, Frank Woods talked about the advantages of going to a Rotary International Convention since the convention this year will be in Houston, June 5 to 8.  He talked about learning more about Rotary and having fun with 20,000 to 30,000 Rotarians and guests.
 
After the speeches concluded, each student introduced their guests, told us their grade level, and their plans after high school.  After the scores were tallied, Bob announced the winners.  Bob also introduced Susan Mosier, Folsom High Speech Coach.

Mariya will compete in the Area 3 speech contest on April 5 at Folsom Lake College.  It will be in the Community Room, beginning at 6:30 pm.
 
Joel George presented a flag to President Steve from his Grandfather's Rotary Club in India.
